Preamble
The Lake Vernon Association (i.e., the LVA) has been founded for people on or in close proximity to Lake Vernon, and who are interested in an organization to work for their common good. The Association shall concern itself with issues that contributed to the environment, health, pleasure, comfort, and security of those living temporarily or permanently in the area. All members are encouraged to reflect the general feeling of their community and to bring their needs to the attention of the Association. The Lake Plan, approved by the membership in 2003, shall be used as a guide for the activities of the Association. The Official Plan and Unity Plan for Huntsville may serve to provide further direction.
Name
The Association shall be called “The Lake Vernon Association”, or simply “The LVA”.
Jurisdiction
The LVA jurisdiction shall be the immediate boundaries of Lake Vernon, its tributaries, Vernon Narrows, Hunters Bay, Robinson Lake, Deer Lake, and the Muskoka River to the Main Street Bridge.
Members
Members shall be those who own property within the jurisdiction, and who have paid their annual membership fee. Both spouses (partners) shall be entitled to vote, regardless of the number of family members, on motions and elections.
Elections
The term of office for elected executive members shall be two years with no limit to the number of terms that can be served. The Past President shall form a Nominating Committee and present a slate of Officers for election for the following two years. Nominations will be received from the floor, and if there is a contest for a position, a secret ballot will be held, and a simple majority will prevail. In unable to be present to vote, a member may designate an alternate to cast their vote. Such proxy shall be identified to the President or Chair of the meeting.
Executive
The executive shall be responsible for the management and control of the affairs of the Association, subject to the Constitution and decisions made by majority vote of the membership. The Executive shall consist of the following who have been elected at an Annual General Meeting:
Funds
The funds raised by the association shall be in the keeping of the Treasurer, and shall be deposited in a chartered Canadian Bank. Payments made on behalf of the Association shall be made by cheque on the account, and signed by two of three signing officers of the executive.
Membership Fees
Membership fees shall be determined by a two-thirds majority vote of the Membership in a duly called General Meeting. The membership shall be for the calendar year (January 1 - December 31). The membership fee as of September 2019 is $35.00.
Annual General Meeting
An Annual General Meeting shall be called on a dated to be fixed by the executive for the purpose of receiving reports, elections, and for transacting any other business that my be presented at the meeting. Motions will be carried by majority vote. At least two weeks’ noticed shall be given for the calling of a General Meeting, and a quorum shall be equal to those present.
